Feb. 18th, 2024 12:25 pmThe Sun enters Pisces I tonight at 11:13 pm EST. The Labyrinth is associated with Okeanos and with Saturn, both in their roles as ancient and inscrutable tricksters in the mold of Bugs Bunny. You laugh at the predicaments and situations each find themselves in... but you're reminded over and over how much you do not want to be Elmer Fudd or the most in-ter-esting monster.... There is no set of circumstances, you tell yourself over and over, in which you would willingly mess with the Bunny.
And so it is with Okeanos, and with Saturn. We assume that the ocean is vast and old, and that if there is a divine and mythic entity that watches over it — it is not for us mortals to mess with. Similarly, Saturn trudging at the outer edge of the visible solar system reminds us constantly that he is neither to be trifled with nor bearded nor abused. Each is full of dignity — and each can hold a grudge for 10,000 years if conditions are right and they become irritated enough.
And yet each is enormously kind, generously fecund, and openly hospitable until crossed or harmed. Bugs Bunny takes his friends to the clam festival at Pismo Beach, despite his inept sense of direction; Okeanos lets children play in his fringes, hosts sailboat races around the world, and provides food most generously from his larder; Saturn rewards the earth with the time and seasons necessary to mature apple trees and olive groves.
Indolence is suggested by this card, but it's less the indolence of sitting under a tree for an afternoon, than the indolence of sitting in the shade of a tree you grew from seed sixty years ago. There's something to be said for the retired trickster, lounging around eating carrots and waiting for a house call and subsequent golf game with his doctor. ..
